Position Overview

Our client, a provider of biological and in vitro products to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, is currently seeking a Vice President & General Manager to join their growing organization.  Our organization specializes in producing products used in drug discovery, compound development, clinical and research diagnostics enabling biomedical researchers to better understand the pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism of newly discovered compounds and the effects on disease processes. 

The VP-GM will be responsible for leading the NHA business unit in a matrix organization. A key focus will be developing a scalable organization and processes to achieve revenue and EBITDA growth.  

This role requires a high level of operational leadership. Significant experience in planning, procurement, manufacturing, lab operations, and global distribution is required. A willingness and demonstrated ability to work hands-on with cross functional teams to improve processes is critical to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall P&L of the business unit including the support of organic and inorganic growth
  • Develop a vision and plan for becoming a leader in the business unit’s marketplace with partners like Marketing and Product Management.
  • Integrate and align strategy across the broader business’ product offerings and ensure alignment with the longer-term vision.
  • Lead cross functionally and across a matrix organization to drive strategy, execute on milestones, and move the business unit forward as the market’s premier partner.
  • Partner with the commercial leaders on commercial aspects, customer relationships and key partnerships for the business unit.
  • Identify prospective opportunities and assist in due diligence, as well as facilitate the integration of any new acquisitions.
  • Identify and drive development and launch of new products and services to support growth opportunities.
  • Hire, grow, develop and manage a best-in-class team
  • Effectively operate cross-functionally across the entire organization.
  • Identify and benchmark current performance, targeting the biggest opportunities to improve overall order flow across critical metrics with the goal of internal operations assisting the maximization of EBITDA and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and effectively utilize key performance indicators (KPIs) to proactively manage the business.
  • Drive justification, deployment, and utilization of technology and systems to improve operational efficiency of the business.
  • Maintain efficient relationship of external vendors and proactively monitors the supply chain
  • Meets marketing and sales financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Plan and implement strategic growth plans for key areas of the business
  • Develop a long-range facility and staffing plan that will allow for smooth growth of the business.
  • Continually improves daily operations with regard to safety, cost, quality, productivity, training, and development of personnel.
  • Ensures that work is performed according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Corporate and Departmental Policies, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Continuously and rigorously evaluates departmental processes to determine areas of inefficiency and bottlenecks; works with selected team members to find and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Establishes, monitors and measures performance metrics
  • Up to 30% travel to sites and customer locations.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations, business or science is a must
  • 15+ years’ experience in Operations, lean, and Supply Chain preferably within the pharmaceutical, biotech, diagnostics, or life science industries
  • Entrepreneurial, self-starter with hands-on approach
  • A minimum of 8+ years in a management role
  • Proficient in computer skills and interpretation of data
  • Proven track record of leading cross functionally
  • Effective written and communication skills
  • Demonstrated record of implementing process improvements with improved business outcomes
  • ISO, GMP, or GLP experience preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement training and expertise
  • ERP and LIMS system experience preferred
