Position Overview

As the Vice President of Business Development for our client Contract Research Organization (CRO), you will play a critical role in driving the company’s growth by leading strategic initiatives to expand our client base and enhance revenue streams. You will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive business development strategies, cultivating relationships with key stakeholders, and identifying new opportunities within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy Development:

  • Collaborate with the executive team to define and refine the overall business development strategy, aligning it with the company’s goals and vision.
  • Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, and industry developments to identify potential growth areas and new business opportunities.
  • Develop a clear roadmap for business development initiatives, outlining targets, timelines, and resource requirements.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Build and nurture strong relationships with existing clients, understanding their needs and objectives to provide tailored solutions and maintain client satisfaction.
  • Identify potential clients, establish initial contact, and engage in effective communication to understand their requirements and align services accordingly.
  • Lead negotiations, contract discussions, and pricing strategies to ensure mutually beneficial partnerships.

New Business Generation:

  • Proactively seek out and identify potential clients and collaboration opportunities through market research, networking, and attending industry events.
  • Initiate and coordinate sales campaigns to well defined targets most suited to our solution sets.
  • Develop and present compelling proposals and presentations that showcase the organization’s capabilities and value proposition to prospective clients.
  • Participate and strengthen bid defenses to ensure the highest probability of securing wins.
  • Drive the end-to-end sales process, from lead generation to contract closure, ensuring a smooth transition to project execution teams.

Team Leadership:

  • Manage and lead a growing team of business development professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback to ensure the team’s success.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative environment within the business development team, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to business development activities, providing regular updates to the executive team.
  • Conduct regular market and competitive analyses to stay informed about industry trends and identify areas for potential growth.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in business development within the contract research, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully identifying and closing complex deals with high-value clients.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the drug development lifecycle and the CRO industry.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze data, make informed decisions, and drive results.
