Position Overview
Our client is a full-service oncology CRO with a long-standing reputation for scientific rigor, customer service, and deep clinical trial expertise. As the company enters its next phase of growth, they are seeking a Chief Technology Officer to modernize its technology environment and build a scalable foundation for the future.
The CTO will define the next-generation technology strategy for the business – determining what should remain proprietary, what should move to market-standard platforms, and how data, AI, and modern technology can improve trial execution, internal efficiency, and customer value.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the modernization of our client’s clinical technology environment, including the transition of selected commercial systems to market-standard platforms such as a commercial CTMS.
- Oversee the continued maintenance and evolution of proprietary systems required for the NCI relationship.
- Define a practical enterprise architecture across clinical systems, cloud infrastructure, integrations, and data.
- Build a scalable data foundation that supports stronger reporting, analytics, real-time insights, and future AI use cases.
- Identify and implement practical AI and automation opportunities that improve efficiency and customer value.
- Strengthen technology governance, cybersecurity, privacy, validation, and software delivery practices.
- Assess and evolve the technology organization so that capabilities, resources, and structure align with the future-state roadmap.
- Partner closely with the executive team and customers to translate technology into better clinical-trial execution and business outcomes.
Key Requirements:
- Senior technology leadership experience in a CRO, pharma services, clinical technology, pharmaceutical, or similarly regulated life sciences environment.
- Experience leading meaningful technology transformation, systems implementation, and platform modernization initiatives.
- Working knowledge of clinical technology environments such as CTMS, IRT/IWRS, EDC, clinical data platforms, or related systems.
- Experience with data architecture, cloud platforms, integrations, and modern enterprise technology environments.
- Enough software/product leadership experience to oversee proprietary platforms, roadmaps, delivery, and development teams.
- Practical experience evaluating or implementing AI solutions, with the ability to connect technology investments to measurable business value.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with executives, technical teams, and biotech/pharma customers.
- An entrepreneurial, hands-on leadership style. Our client is open to an established CTO or a high-upside senior technology executive ready to step into the top technology role.
- The role is remote and may be based in the United States or Western Europe. Executive travel will be required as needed. European candidates should be familiar with U.S. regulated clinical systems requirements, including 21 CFR Part 11.
