Position Overview

Our client is a U.S.-based investment firm focused on early-stage biotech. They invest in transformative science with the potential to reshape medicine, and are currently seeking a highly motivated Associate or Senior Associate to join their growing investment team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stay on the leading edge of science by developing deep knowledge across therapeutic areas, modalities, and emerging trends
  • Conduct comprehensive scientific, clinical and commercial due diligence on new opportunities, including review of preclinical/clinical data, competitive landscapes, IP, and market potential
  • Translate complex data into actionable insights to support investment decisions
  • Engage with key opinion leaders, scientific advisors, clinicians, and payers to deepen understanding of target areas and validate investment hypotheses
  • Synthesize expert perspectives to refine deal assessments and strategic positioning
  • Build financial models and analyze exit scenarios to support valuation, deal structuring, and return analysis
  • Contribute to internal investment discussions with clear and data-driven recommendations
  • Prepare high-quality investment memoranda and presentations for the partnership and Investment Committee
  • Clearly articulate the scientific rationale, market opportunity, business model, and key risks of each deal
  • Support the full deal process, from diligence coordination to term sheet negotiation and closing
  • Collaborate with the Managing Partner and external counsel to ensure smooth execution of financing transactions
  • Actively identify and source high-potential opportunities through a strong network of founders, researchers, clinicians, and investors
  • Represent the firm at industry conferences, academic symposia, and partnering events to build presence and surface novel science
  • Provide strategic and operational support to portfolio companies post-investment as required
  • Serve as a board observer where appropriate and support R&D strategy, hiring, partnerships, and follow-on fundraising

Key Requirements

  • Advanced degree in life sciences (PhD) in a relevant discipline (e.g. biology, pharmacology, bioengineering)
  • 2–3+ years of experience in equity research or related roles with demonstrated analytical and strategic rigor
  • Strong scientific foundation with broad exposure to therapeutic areas, drug development processes, and biomedical technologies
  • Business and financial acumen, including comfort with valuation, business models, and market dynamics; financial modeling experience is a plus
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to distill complex concepts and engage a range of audiences
  • Team-oriented and entrepreneurial mindset, with a proactive approach, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • A genuine passion for science, company building, and improving patient outcomes
