Position Overview

Our client enrolls patients in general medicine clinical trials across multiple therapeutic areas (“TA”) including gastroenterology, neurology, obesity, pain, vaccines and women’s health with the support of its 20+ principal investigators and sub-investigators.

The Vice President of Operations will be responsible for the Company’s day-to-day operating activities and report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The VP of Ops will partner with the management team to implement the Company’s strategic objectives: (1) deliver high quality outcomes to our customers and patients, (2) grow organic revenue and profitability, (3) plan and launch new de novo sites, and (4) acquire and integrate acquisitions that add strategic capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct daily operations of the business, implementation of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for key reports and oversee execution.
  • Lead, develop, and support Operations leaders to create a high performing team with depth of talent that can support the business as it grows.
  • Develop relationships with the site-level teams by spending time at each of our client’s seven locations.
  • Align daily/monthly site level goals and incentives to trial goals and growth targets.
  • Incorporate KPIs into monthly operating package and support Finance team by continuing to develop the KPI framework that exists today.
  • Collaborate with Patient Recruitment and Quality departments to support meaning and exceeding pharmaceutical sponsors’ expectations.
  • Standardize site policies, staffing levels and operating procedures across the enterprise.
  • Develop and administer annual budget with ELT.
  • Work with CEO and ELT to develop and refine key strategic objectives.
  • Execute on enterprise-wide initiatives to grow within identified geographies and TAs.
  • Support business development team in developing key customer relationships.
  • Define and document operational processes that are centrally executed vs. at the site-level.
  • Develop long-term strategy for talent development at the site level with CHRO.
  • Partner with ELT in identifying new markets and site locations.
  • Document and execute on documented de novo “playbook” to create repeatable process for new location development (growth historically has been through de novo additions).
  • Manage relationships with third-party ancillary vendors / other vendors as needed.
  • Integrate newly acquired sites including onboarding into operational model (e.g., our client’s KPI framework and standardized operating processes).
  • Ensure integration playbook is kept current and implementation coordinated across all functional areas.

Key Requirements

  • 10 years of executive leadership experience overseeing multi-site healthcare operations, preferably in the site management industry or in pharmaceutical services
  • Execution orientation with ability to create and implement annual strategic plan
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, coach and mentor direct reports
  • Possess strong leadership and communication skills with ability to interface effectively with site level management, principal investigators, corporate personnel and the Board of Directors
  • Experience in private equity backed companies a positive and not a requirement
  • Travel to site locations expected to be >50%
