The Head of Operations & Systems Improvement (OSI) will play a pivotal role in delivering bottom-line results and a strong culture of continuous improvement across the Pharmaceutical Operations & Technology (PO&T) organization. Reporting to the VP, Global Engineering & Technical Services, and with direct accountability to the PO&T Leadership Team, this role will lead a team dedicated to driving sustainable improvements in processes, and systems to optimize productivity across our development, manufacturing, and supply operations.
This role will lead and support PO&T through a journey to improved business performance. It requires an experienced, transformational operations leader who is willing to learn new skills, drive the development of a disciplined continuous improvement program and take accountability for the success of challenging change efforts. This role must be able to credibly and consistently champion improvements based on a foundation of strong data analysis and proven Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
Key Requirements
- Develop and implement a comprehensive continuous improvement strategy aligned with PO&T’s culture and strategic business objectives.
- Collaborate with senior PO&T leadership to integrate OSI initiatives into overall business planning and decision-making processes.
- Lead and mentor a team, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities to drive engagement and maximize performance.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation within the OSI team and across the organization.
- Develop and manage the department’s budget, ensuring optimal utilization of resources to meet goals and objectives.
- Coach and develop team to build PO&T leadership capabilities, while creating future programmatic opportunities for PO&T talent to develop within the OSI program.
- Drive and own overall accountability for continuous improvement Efforts:
- Direct and oversee team’s process assessments to identify areas of improvement and potential cost savings; establish and facilitate governance of priorities with the PO&T leadership team.
- Direct team to develop and implement continuous improvement plans to optimize operational performance.
- Identify and develop a skills and capabilities framework for OSI critical skills to serve as a roadmap for the OSI team.
- Collaborate with the senior PO&T leadership team to develop and drive the strategy for improving processes and achieving organizational goals.
- Champion a change management framework to facilitate the successful adoption of OSI initiatives at all levels of the organization.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track the effectiveness of OSI efforts and measure progress against goals with regular updates and communication to the PO&T leadership team.
- Prepare regular reports and presentations for executive leadership, highlighting achievements, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices, emerging technologies, and trends in continuous improvement methodologies, and leverage this knowledge to drive innovation and excellence within the organization.
- Provide training and development opportunities to build OSI capabilities across the organization.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering. Master’s of Business Administration or Master’s in Science or Engineering degree preferred.
- 15+ years of biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience with a minimum of 10 years of direct functional leadership experience in manufacturing, quality, technical development, supply chain, or engineering
- Experience in continuous improvement, operational excellence, or related roles within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry. Black Belt certification in Lean Six Sigma or other relevant continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
- Proven track record of successfully leading and managing high performance teams.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Demonstrated proficiency in change management methodologies and driving cultural transformation.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate complex concepts and ideas clearly and concisely.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to think critically and anticipate future challenges and opportunities.
